The Nokia Lumia 900 is one of the hottest smartphones at CES 2012 — so hot, in fact, that Nokia’s handlers would only let us hold and unlock the phone, but not dig any deeper through the interface.
The Lumia 900 looks and feels very similar to the Lumia 800, which we reviewed in November. It shares the same elongated, cylindrical candy bar form factor, but is slightly tapered at the top. It’s larger too: 4.3 inches as opposed to the 800’s 3.7-inch screen size. The 900’s screen is an 800×480 AMOLED ClearBlack display, and looks as fantastically bright and rich as the display on the 800. The new Nokia chart-topper has a 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor, 512MB of RAM, and 16GB of storage (not expandable via SD or microSD).
Windows Phone Mango on the Lumia 900 is the same smooth, consistent experience I’ve seen on pretty much every Windows Phone handset. On the back, the 900 has an 8-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a dual-LED flash, and on the front there’s a 1.3-megapixel VGA-quality camera. The rear-facing camera can shoot video at 720p.

Windows 8 offers a number of new Windows 8 features from its all new UI to Windows App Store and improvised security features. Here’s a list of new features and improvements which will arrive with Windows 8:
Windows 8 is the first edition of Windows which will work on both ARM based tablets and traditional x86 (as well as x32 and x64) PCs based on ARM processors from Intel and AMD.
“Support for ARM-based chipsets, touch, and sensors makes Windows 8 work beautifully on your choice of a full spectrum of devices, such as 10-inch slates with all-day battery life, ultra-lightweight laptops, and powerful all-in-ones with 27-inch high-definition screens,” Microsoft contends, in a Windows 8 Guide distributed with Windows Developer Preview
The “Windows To Go” seems to be an exciting feature that basically allows Windows 8 to boot from a USB device (called as Live USB), including user’s programs, settings and files. The feature is designed to work with both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, and on both legacy NIOS and UDFI firmware. However, Microsoft says that a user will not be able to “Hibernate” with this feature.
“Windows To Go is a new feature in Windows 8 that enables enterprise administrators to create USB drives containing complete, managed Windows images that users can use to boot and run Windows on any Windows 7 or Windows 8 capable computer. Windows To Go makes it possible for employees to use a managed device whether they work from home, a client office or in a free seating environment. This session will discuss Windows To Go, its hardware requirements and building compatible and complementary software.”
Another interesting thing about this feature is that, if the USB drive is removed, Windows will automatically freeze, but will continue to operate if the USB drive is inserted back in the next 60 seconds after removal.
Speaking about the UI, Windows 8 certainly has got a mind blowing interactive UI, which has been extensively redesigned to a “Metro-style” design, which shows the most important information to you, embodies simplicity, and gives you full control over it. The UI is designed to provide a fluid and intuitive interaction and navigation with touch, or a mouse and keyboard.
Julie Larson-Green, Corporate Vice President, Windows who stated: “Everything that’s great about Windows 7, is better in Windows 8,” gave a quick hands on look at the Windows 8 user-interface. Here are some of the screenshots she released:

The Windows Defender which was first released with Windows Vista is getting a security upgrade with the upcoming Windows 8. This would probably edge-our third-party antivirus and anti-malware programs. Windows Defender will become a full-fledged anti-malware solution for Windows 8. This will include protection against all types of malware such as virus, worms, trojans and rootkits.
In addition to that, Windows Defender will provide real-time detection and protection from malware threats using a file system filter, and will interface with Windows secured boot, which is another security feature.
The developer preview of Windows 8 comes with a Metro version of Internet Explore (IE) 10. Since it is a preview version, it does not support any browser plugins and extension – including Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight. However, it will feature full screen browsing mode by default, implements several new HTML5 capabilities, turbocharges HTML5 performance, and adds some security options for Web applications.

HTC’s splurge of product announcements has taken in a massive five smartphones at MWC – the Desire S, Wildfire S, and the flagship Incredible S, plus a pair of “Facebook” phones in the Salsa and Chacha (more on these later). Yet the most exciting announcement by far has to be the firm’s first Android tablet: the Flyer.
Unlike the majority of its rivals, HTC has been beavering away on its own skin for Android – Sense For Tablets – and it looks to have been hard at work on the hardware too. The HTC Flyer boasts a 7in 1,024 x 600 screen, a single-core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 5-megapixel camera capable of shooting HD video and a front-facing camera. There’s 14.4Mbits/sec HSDPA, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3 with A2DP, GPS and all the usual sensors.
I’ll take a deep breath and then continue, because that’s not all. With the Flyer is included a pressure-sensitive capacitive stylus, which we saw used to scrawl notes in HTC’s note-taking app and then shared using Evernote, which comes pre-installed. Dubbed the HTC Scribe, the stylus has a couple of buttons on its body, one of which is used to switch to highlight text, while the other is used for erasing.
HTC’s Timemark technology, meanwhile, lets you record audio at the same time as writing notes by hand on the screen – like a screen-based version of a Pulse Smartpen. Oddly, and that’s putting it kindly, there’s nowhere in the Flyer’s 13.2mm thick body to stow the stylus.
Design-wise, the Flyer looks to be the best of the bunch so far. Just as with the Legend and countless MacBooks before it, the Flyer has a aluminium unibody chassis, which looks very smart indeed, and it’s iced smartly with white plastic highlights. It measures 122 x 13.2 x 195.4mm (WDH) and weighs an iPad-spanking 415g. It’s a world away from the chunky Samsung Galaxy Tab in terms of looks, and really heralds the arrival of Android tablets in the big time.
We’re not too sure about HTC’s reliance on the Sense UI, however. Turn on the Flyer and you’re greeted by HTC’s familiar Sense homescreen, dominated by the flippy clock at the top and soft buttons at the bottom of the screen. Rotate it and the desktop rearranges itself neatly into a slightly less attractive landscape view. You can pinch to zoom out and view the device’s seven desktops, just as you can with any of the firm’s smartphones – it feels homely, like a pair of well-worn slippers.
Rather than being build on top of Google’s forthcoming (and tablet-specific) Android 3 OS, however, Sense for tablets has been pasted over Android 2.4, which seems to be a retrograde step. Here we have an Android tablet, with modern styling, but sporting an underlying OS designed for smartphones, not tablets. Whether this will prove to be a hindrance to the success of the Flyer waits to be seen.

Microsoft is set to unveil a major upgrade to Windows Phone 7 at an event later today. The new release, version 7.5, will include improved web browsing, updated Microsoft Office support and better gaming options.
Rumours suggest that it will also offer improved voice support, turn-by-turn navigation, visual voicemail and automatic Facebook check-ins. Only the last of these, however, would be a feature not currently on offer on both Apple and Google’s operating systems, either free or via a paid-for app.
Some rumours have also suggested that new devices and WiFi tethering, allowing users to share their phone’s data connection with other devices, could also be included. Although tethering too is now also offered by the Apple iPhone and has been a part of Google devices for some time, Microsoft has previously said however that it has no plans to include it.
Analysts have remained sceptical at Windows Phone 7’s ability to crack a market dominated by Apple and Android. Google recently reported that 100million Android devices had been activated. Microsoft’s deal with Nokia, however, may give it a new advantage.
Eldar Murtazin, an analyst who was among the first to identify Microsoft’s intention to do a deal with Nokia, has said that although Microsoft has shipped 1.5 million phones to partners, approximately 900,000 of those remain unsold so far.

Adobe SocialAnalytics goes hand-in-hand with social networking platforms to provide businesses with a better understanding of how social media impacts their success. Adobe SocialAnalytics software basically analyzes social media data and content and provides relevant measurements and numbers on “key business metrics”.Adobe claims that SocialAnalytics will ultimately allow marketers to “monitor, measure, and monetize social media”.The online marketing suite was designed in conjunction with Omniture technologies.Brad Rencher, vice president and general manager of the Omniture Business Unit at Adobe, says: “What marketers have been missing is a solution that helps them identify the most relevant voices and activities, tie social activity to brand and business impact and then take action to optimize that impact. Adobe SocialAnalytics can inform how a company participates on the social Web, removing guesswork and replacing it with strategies or experimentation built on insight”.Rencher also says: “The social Web is the largest focus group on the planet and marketers are striving to figure out how best to listen and participate”.Since it’s original announce (March, 2011) there has already been several big name participants taking advantage of the software; prominent names like MTV Networks, Vodafone and General Motors.Chris Jenkins, head of global online performance at Vodafone, says: “With the ability to tie our efforts to key performance indicators such as site traffic and online purchases, we can further optimise the social experiences we provide.”It certainly opens up many opportunities for small (and large) businesses that don’t quite understand how to attack social marketing with solid techniques. Users can pinpoint a certain area of their social media profiles and focus on improving one aspect at a time. For instance, if users want to focus a majority of their efforts and measurements on profile and web traffic they can do so; or they can focus on other aspects such as amount of social media impact and content (comments, friends/followers etc.).

SocialAnalytics allows users to measure exposure and marketing numbers on a wide variety of social networks and platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Social Blogs, and Social Forums.
